Step by step

Installation guide

The White PowerPlay and the Black / Clear PowerPlay are upgraded differently. Follow the steps for your model and use the matching download above.

Back up your recordings first.Formatting erases everything on the TF / microSD card. Keep PowerPlay supplied with reliable power throughout the upgrade.

White PowerPlay

  1. Copy powerplay.bin to the card

Extract the White ZIP and copy powerplay.bin directly onto the TF / microSD card’s top level. Do not put it inside a folder, do not copy the ZIP itself, and keep the file name unchanged.

  2. Insert the card and power on

Insert the card into the powered-off White PowerPlay and switch it on. The upgrade starts automatically. Do not interrupt power or remove the card while it is running.

  3. Delete powerplay.bin

When the upgrade has finished, delete powerplay.bin from the card (or format the card in PowerPlay) so the upgrade does not run again at the next power-on.

Black / Clear PowerPlay

  1. Format the card in PowerPlay

Insert the TF / microSD card and format it using PowerPlay’s menu. Then switch PowerPlay off and connect the card to your computer with a card reader.

  2. Copy all four upgrade files

Extract the matching ZIP and copy these four files directly onto the card’s top level. Do not put them inside a folder or copy the ZIP itself. Keep the file names unchanged.

    IPLIPL_CUSTUBOOTSigmastarUpgradeSD.bin
  3. Insert the card and power on

Safely eject the card from your computer, insert it into the powered-off PowerPlay, then switch PowerPlay on. The upgrade starts automatically.

  4. Wait for the screen to turn black

Do not interrupt power or remove the card while the upgrade is running. When the upgrade finishes and the screen turns black, remove the card.

  5. Power on without the card

Switch PowerPlay on with the card removed. Once the device has started, reinsert the card.

  6. Format the card in PowerPlay again

Use PowerPlay’s menu to format the card and remove the upgrade files. This prevents the upgrade from starting again the next time you power on with the card inserted.

You’re ready to record. Make a short test recording and check playback before your next shoot.
